What is the difference between “workflow” and “business process management”?
One-line answer : Essentially, there’s no difference.
Everyone says ‘workflow’:
The word ‘workflow’ is overused. It’s used by providers of CRM, Helpdesk, Email Marketing, Project Management, and Marketing Automation software and more.
Why is the word so popular?
In the most general sense, a workflow refers to a sequence of (logically connected) steps. Most software solutions allow users to automate certain action sequences; thus adding the word ‘workflow’ to their feature list.
For example, Marketing Automation software allows you to setup a sequence of emails that will be sent based on whether the previous email was opened or not.
What does ‘workflow’ mean, with respect too BPM?
In the BPM world, a workflow refers to a sequence of business actions; such that each action typically involves approving, reviewing or submitting data.
